Reasons to Quit Smoking

Bad habits are hard to break. I know I’ve had my fair share of them. A major reason it’s difficult to break a bad habit is because your brain believes the habit is pleasurable even if you aren’t happy with it. Smoking is my biggest pet peeve. It pains me to see one smoke especially after losing my father in July to his excessive smoking and drinking. There are so many health issues that can come from smoking. I would love to run a campaign all over the country to encourage people to stop smoking. There are so many reasons to quit and not one good reason to start.

Not only the ones listed above, but you’re also putting others at risk. It also fogs the mind that potentially may lead to dementia, it may also bring on diabetes, stultify sex life, early menopause, contribute to eye disease, increase risk of osteoporosis, stifle sleep, and shaves years off your life. Hmm…sounds like a no-brainer to me. Do your body good and kick the habit. Parents who smoke will more than likely have children that will pick up the habit.

Determination and knowing the positive outcome can make the process of breaking the habit easier. There are many options to choose from to help stop the habit. I’m not here to tell you which one. It’s a personal choice.

Here are a few options:

  1. Cold turkey-Only between 4% to 7% are able to quit
  2. Create a quit plan-pick a stop date and remove all temptations
  3. Behavior therapy
  4. Nicotine replacement
  5. Medicine
  6. Accupressure
  7. Avoid being around those who smoke
  8. Find those who will support you
  9. Essential oils
